Frequently Asked Questions

What is Stock Photography?

Stock photo agencies sell the rights to use copyrighted images from their digital collections to publishers, ad agencies, designers, artists and other buyers.

This web site is primarily designed for picture professionals searching for just the right image(s) for a specific project. By registering with us, clients have access to our searchable database and can download un-watermarked images for layout purposes.

This website also serves our photographers as a means to upload and mange their work and review sales and payments.

How Can I Become a Contributor?

We are actively seeking new images, both photography and illustrations. We invite you to join the Photo Resource Hawaii on line community. Join Us.

You may be represented by other agents or market your work independently. However, photographs submitted for our Rights Managed collection must be exclusively represented by Photo Resource Hawaii.

Royalty-Free image submissions are non-exclusive and may be represented elsewhere (with the exception of microstock agencies.)

Provider Agreement

Please review our Supplier Agreement so that you are clear about the arrangement between you as the supplier and our agency as your distributor.

Once I have signed-up, then what?

You will automatically receive an account. Just complete the necessary information asked for on-line. Then begin submitting your work by up loading your hi-resolution jpg images to our site.

Your photos will be reviewed to determine which images will sell best in our Royalty Free or Rights Managed collection. Not all work is accepted, however, by following the submission guidelines and uploading only your best material, you will have an opportunity to become one of Hawaii's showcased photographers.

Once your images are approved, they will be digitally watermarked by Digimarc which provides copyright protection by tracking image use on the web. This allows us to regularly publish our content to Google Images, which then links back to our site greatly enhancing visibility and direct sales.

How do I get paid?

You will be able to see in real time your sales results when logging into your account. Commissions are 50% of the net licensing fee. Payments will be made on the first of the month in U.S. Dollars by ACH wire transfer. If payments are requested by check, there is a fee of $5.20 that will be deducted from your earnings.

Copyright Protection

Because use violations on the internet are common, Photo Resource Hawaii uses a professional software known as Content Tracker to monitor such infringements. This assures both photographers and clients that images will be monitored for copyright infringements.

All images on this site must be copyrighted. If you have already registered your work with the U.S. Copyright office, you will need to send us a copy of your Certificate of Registration (form VA).

If you have not registered your images directly with U.S. Copyright office, Photo Resource Hawaii must register them for you. In order for us to protect against unauthorized use, you assign your copyright to Photo Resource so that we can register your accepted Images with U.S. Copyright Office. Please see Supplier Agreement for details.

Copyright reassignment from photographer to an agency is a standard practice within the stock photo industry. Rest assured, your Copyright can be re-assigned to you at anytime, upon request. Our business is to protect your copyright.

Model and Property Releases

Model releases are not required, however, in order for Photo Resource Hawaii to provide images for commercial advertising, identifiable individuals must sign a model release consent form.

Many uses of photos are possible without a model release. These include educational textbooks, editorial magazines and newspapers.

If an image is model released, photographer must upload digital copies of any model releases. This is done through the photographer's administrative account via our website.

We recommend using our model release consent form in order to maximize salability for both commercial and editorial use.

Photos that include identifiable and branded elements, such as buildings, airplanes, boats, corporate logos, brand names, etc. cannot be used for commercial use without a property release.

Licensing Models

When uploading images to our site, you have the option of choosing which collection you would like your work to appear in. You must select one or the other, but not both of the following categories.

Rights Managed is an exclusive licensing model where the usage fee is determined by size, press run and time period the photo is used. Images are tracked so that clients can obtain a complete history of use, if needed.

Photo Resource Hawaii and its sub-agents will exclusively represent all photos. Any other agent may not sell these images.

Royalty Free is a non-exclusive licensing model that charges a one time fee for unlimited use of copyrighted photos for an unlimited period of time. Pricing is based on the megabyte file size. Any images or illustrations that are uploaded to PhotoResourceHawaii.com may not also be, or have been, uploaded to any microstock website. Examples of microstock sites whereby PhotoResourceHawaii.com content may NOT exist are (but not limited to) istockphoto, stockxchange, stockxpert, Fotolia, Dreamstime, Shutterstock.
